What are the biggest challenges you are seeing in the market for your investor clients and how is your team advising them through those challenges?
There is a “new normal” that has emerged over the last few years as a result of the hard market we’ve been in. Many carriers that investors and landlords have relied on in the past have exited the habitational/investor property market. Agents must now become trusted advisors to their client to help navigate the difficulties this presents. It is no longer enough to simply be a quote provider.
How has your approach to working with investors evolved over time?
We’ve learned that time is precious to investors. Our family agency has been around for about 30 years. In the beginning, we were simply thrilled to quote and write for anyone with a pulse, but at this point, I find being selective with the clients that I work with to be paramount. And I don’t mean just working with large accounts. Two elements must be true to move forward in a healthy agent-client relationship:
- The investor has to want to do business with me.
- I have to want to do business with them.
What sets your agency apart in the real estate investment insurance space?
Investors talk to each other! Once you’ve conquered the industry challenges we’ve seen in the last few years, word spreads very quickly. Referrals, but specifically good referrals, are the currency of the investment property marketplace.

What steps does your team take to educate clients about their policies and options?

What advice would you give other REInsurePro agents?
Actively listen to your clients. Listening is a superpower. The client may not always know exactly how to ask the right questions. As their trusted advisor, you already have access to all the answers. Success comes when the agent can match the right answers to the questions the client is really asking.
